Peter’s primary practice encompasses a broad range of sophisticated real estate and related business matters throughout the United States. Student Housing
Peter has extensive experience in the campus-adjacent property sector, representing clients in all aspects of student housing projects. He has played the lead role on several billion dollars of student housing acquisition, development and sale transactions.
Multi-Family, Senior Living, Mixed-Use, Light Industrial and Retail
Peter represents developers, landlords, investors, lenders, tenants and sellers in transactions involving multi-family, senior living, mixed-use, light industrial and retail properties.
Restructuring and Distressed Investments
Peter is experienced in restructuring and insolvency-related matters, representing various parties in complex business reorganizations and distressed investment opportunities, particularly as they pertain to real estate.
- Representation of a student housing developer on numerous university-adjacent projects throughout the United States:
- Projects had acquisition and development budgets in the range of $50 to $175 million and disposition pricing in the range of $75 to $225 million
- These representations included all aspects of each project, from negotiating acquisition documents, coordinating due diligence, negotiating and closing construction financing and related joint ventures, to negotiating disposition documents and coordinating the sale of completed and operating projects
- Representation of the developer on an award-winning luxury apartment and retail project in downtown Phoenix, involving multiple land acquisition, joint venture, construction financing, and sale transactions
- The project was comprised of three separate phases, featuring a 30-story tower completed in 2019, a 28-story tower completed in 2021, and a 32-story tower that may break ground in 2026
- All phases are part of a long-term development relationship with the City of Phoenix that entails post-completion conveyance and leaseback transactions with the City
- Representation of the developer/landlord in the acquisition, development, and leasing of numerous shopping center projects throughout the Midwest
- Representation of the seller in the sale of its restaurant portfolio comprised of 70 locations throughout Colorado, Utah and Wyoming
- Representation of an investment firm on acquisition and leaseback transactions relating to light industrial properties in Florida
- Representation of the developer in its acquisition, financing and development of senior-living communities in Connecticut and New Jersey
- Representation of an investment firm in its acquisition and disposition of charter school properties in several states
- Representation of LP investors in joint ventures relating to acquisition, development, and sale transactions in numerous states across various asset classes
- Representation of a commercial property owner in connection with cellular tower lease transactions in downtown Denver
- Representation of the seller in transactions involving its nationwide hospital portfolio
- Representation of chapter 11 debtors in the successful restructuring of $9 billion debt, playing the primary role in negotiating favorable amendment terms on dozens of leases throughout the United States within the context of the lease rejection and assumption process under the Bankruptcy Code
- Representation of a secured creditor in acquiring substantially all of a chapter 11 debtor’s assets, including a 14-story mixed-use development located in Chicago
- Representation of the buyer in a chapter 11/Section 363 asset sale involving a retail pharmacy chain in Puerto Rico
- Representation of the widow of a National Guardsman whose statutory benefits were denied as a result of the government’s initial determination that the National Guardsman did not die while serving in any duty-related capacity. Our application was granted by the Board for the Correction of Military Records, and the client and her children have received significant financial, medical and educational benefits as a result.
- Representation of an Iraq War veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, successfully obtaining Combat-Related Special Compensation.
- Representation of The Nature Conservancy relating to its property holdings in southwestern Colorado, which include a large working ranch and retreat.
