Foreign direct investment in Mexico’s telecommunications sector plummeted 93.4% to just $6.7 million in Q1 2025, down from $253 million in the same period of 2024, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Sergio Legorreta attributes the telecommunications investment slowdown to regulatory reforms that have created uncertainty in the infrastructure and telecom sectors. He suggests that investment could potentially recover if secondary regulations are issued in the coming months to provide certainty, or if the deadline for injunctions passes without any being filed, which would give regulated entities the confidence needed to make investments.
