Legal industry experts say personal communication of rate increases remains the best practice. Kevin agrees and advocates that a personal email to a client informing them of the increase is the best practice. Broyles said it’s important to his firm that their partners choose their rate increases, and communicate independently to their clients about those changes. “The larger a firm gets, the less connection they have to the client and the less information they have about the client. It always makes sense to give that authority to the partners, as they’re best able to understand their clients and give them what they need,” he said.
