Biography

Scott has significant experience in what he considers to be the three must-have skills of a patent attorney: development of patent rights, patent litigation and technology-related transactions/negotiations. As a registered patent attorney, he enjoys enhancing the growth of technology-driven clients by providing patent portfolio growth strategies, executing on those strategies through patent preparation and prosecution, providing freedom-to-operate and invalidity assessments to minimize the risks of infringement liability, and providing litigation support as needed. Scott also has experience with inter partes reviews and other post-grant processes resulting in nationally renowned success. Additionally, having been a client himself in his role as in-house counsel for Digeo, a Paul Allen Wired World company, Scott understands the challenges faced by the tech executives and legal professionals whom he serves as counsel and works very hard to formulate creative ways to make their professional lives easier.

Scott assists clients with matters involving a wide variety of technology areas including consumer electronics and other products, avionics, telecommunications, semiconductor design, analog circuits, IoT systems, medical devices, software solutions and aerospace/mechanical systems. He has extensive experience in developing and negotiating license agreements involving software and other proprietary technologies and content.

Prior to attending law school, Scott served as a graduate research assistant for the Auburn University Space Power Institute, a role in which he designed and tested electronic circuits to be deployed in components of the U.S. Strategic Defense Initiative. Scott currently serves as Chair of the Auburn University Department of Aerospace Engineering Advisory Council.
