Biography
Kenneth Cutshaw is an accomplished lawyer and business executive who had professional assignments in law, business, academia, hospitality, non-government organizations, government and diplomacy. Ken is proud to be a Partner at FisherBroyles. Ken has held leadership positions from Law Firm Partner to CEO & President to Dean of a Law School to a USA Government sub-Cabinet appointment. As an adjunct professor, he has taught business law at 7 universities over three decades. He was CEO/ President for the largest class action settlement company. He was General Counsel / Chief Legal Officer of 2 Global Restaurant Brands. Ken was appointed as a diplomat for the country of India and served as its Honorary Consul in the USA. Ken was a founder of a post-Soviet private university in the Country of Georgia where he served as its first Law School Dean. He has served on Boards involving legal services, technology and hospitality. He participated with international development of export control policies after the dissolution of the Soviet Union while working as an appointed sub-Cabinet official with the USA Government.
At FisherBroyles, Cutshaw has assimilated this career experience in order to serve clients in the areas international business and trade law, government issues and corporate matters.
Prior to joining FisherBroyles as a partner, Cutshaw was the former CEO and President of Garden City Group, formerly the world’s largest class action claims settlement administrator. In the hospitality industry, he was President and Chief Legal Officer of Quiznos Restaurants and Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Church’s Chicken Restaurants. Cutshaw co-founded two restaurant groups, Red, Hot & Blue BBQ and Cheers Funeatery Restaurants.
Cutshaw was co-founder of the Georgian American University (Tbilisi, Georgia) and was the first Dean of Law. Cutshaw has been an Adjunct Professor teaching business law at Emory University, Georgia Tech, Duke University, Georgia State University, Elon University, Carolina University and Georgian American University. Cutshaw was a partner of the Holland and Knight law firm, an AmLaw 50 law firm. He is a member of the legal bars in Washington D.C., and the states of North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee. He has been a member of bar associations for International, American, Inter-Pacific and India. He was legal counsel for the 1982 World Exposition.
In the United States government, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Commerce Department serving in the Administrations of President Ronald Reagan and President George H. W. Bush. He was appointed a diplomat under the Vienna Convention as the Honorary Consul for India in the USA. His NGO leadership was Chairman, President and Board member for American Council of Young Political Leaders for 25 years, and ten years on the Board of International Foundation of Electoral Systems. He was a campaign manager of a USA Senate Campaign earlier in his career. His membership of the Council of Foreign Relations since 1994 has expanded his expertise of global issues.
His academic degrees are Master of Laws – American University; J.D. & B.A. – University of Tennessee; executive business certificates – India Institute of Management Ahmadabad and Duke University. He has co-published three books by Thomson Reuters: Doing Business in India, Doing Business in China, Doing Business in Russia.
Cutshaw is married with three children and one grandchild, resides in Durham, North Carolina, USA and is an active community contributor through several organizations including Rotary International. Kenneth’s personal pursuits as an outdoor enthusiast, global traveler, mountaineer and knowledge-seeker define his spirited personality.
As General Counsel and Corporate President, he closed the largest franchise transaction in franchising history as measured by unit size with the transaction occurring in China. Further, he led expansion of two restaurant brands to more than 20 new countries.
